It's good to know that you are interested in starting up as a VAS provider. I am a part of VAS industry and from my experience so far I can state the following things:-
ReplyDeleteYou have to be very innovative and enthusiastic to see your VAS business a Success. New Ideas always attract the clients you will be dealing with.
- You can start up with some basic services like SMS and when you start getting the projects and you feel that you are in the condition to invest, you can go ahead with setting up a platform so that you can provide broad services like RT, RBT, CT, CT Message, HT and so on.....
- Talking about the technical skills that your team needs; it all depends on which all technologies you will be using. For example for providing SMS services, you need people having knowledge of Java, Linux and some gateway (Kannel is freeware and widely used). For developing VAS applications, you can opt Contarra platform or you can go for VXML, for which companies like HP provide the platform. Also, lately when client desires you to setup dedicated servers at its circle, you will be needing networking/ platform guys to handle it all.
- The prospective customers depend on your firm's size. As you will start from level A and will grow towards level Z, so in the beginning, start looking for the customers who want to send SMSes for their business promotions; it will fetch you a lot of greens. Secondly, when you get well established, tie up with the mobile operators. If you are starting up in India, your future is definitely bright.
- To see the results you have to be focussed. VAS business takes time to show the significant results. Remember being successful depends on a fellow's will. If you think you can, you will definitely WIN.
